Industry analyst Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) has launched a report series providing enterprise IT professionals with a qualitative review of vendor products in key IT Management areas, such as Website Vulnerability Assessment and Workload Automation.
“The EMA Radar Report is a unique product offering for enterprises interested in a comprehensive look at IT Management products from the perspective of the end-user,” explained EMA President and COO Dan Twing. “We are taking a hard look at the cost and effort to acquire, stand-up and operate products and comparing this with the functionality, usability, and core architecture of each product. Other comparative reports in the market emphasize company size or vision and strategy which tends to favor the largest players. While those components have some bearing on vendor selection, the EMA Radar ReportTM focuses primarily on the cost and effort to use the product and what you get for that effort. These reports will be a valuable guide to anyone making a purchase decision for IT Management software.”
The inaugural EMA Radar Report on Website Vulnerability Assessment and the Workload Automation report are now available on the EMA Website, with new reports on power management and BSM coming out in Q1.
Vendors are assessed on two key dimensions – Product Strength and Cost Efficiency. Each vendor is then mapped against these dimensions, mak¬ing it simple to see how vendors measure up against others in the market. The EMA Radar Report also provides a high-level market segment overview, a detailed discussion of methodology and criteria, a comprehensive analyst write-up on each vendor, as well as an evaluation of software products based on five key categories:
1. Ease of Deployment & Administration: This category rates vendors on start-up cost and effort, as well as ongoing operational cost and effort. Ease of Deployment is measured by scoring implementation timeframe, support, professional services, training, and auto-discovery factors. Ease of administration and automation of management are measured for the administration component.
2. Cost Advantage: Considering licensing models, the price for a license, as well as maintenance costs, this category scores products on their relative price advantage when compared to others in the market. Low price, flexible licensing model, and reasonable maintenance costs are awarded the highest scores.
3. Architecture & Integration: This category assesses the strength and extensibility of the core architecture, as well as the ease of integration and availability of existing modules for integration with other products.
4. Functionality: This category assesses the features of the products on a number of important factors for the product category. Completeness of the product features, as well as ease of use is measured.
5. Vendor Strength: This category considers not just the vendor’s financial strength and presence in the market but also their vision, market credibility and partnerships/channels to reflect their overall strength as a supplier.
